Monash University Living Laboratory
A former civil engineering hydraulics laboratory is reinvented to reveal Monash University’s unique research into transforming grey urban areas into green, liveable and productive spaces that provide innovation in water treatment, food production and urban cooling. The robust architectural palette integrated with greening infrastructure generates strong biophilic patterns and a natural material experience for researchers and visitors. Roof gardens, green walls and experimental biofiltration systems are striking visual displays of Monash’s research ambitions in this new ‘living laboratory’. As an innovative, flexible platform for testing technologies required to create a water-sensitive city, it presents compelling possibilities for implementing living architecture.
