Featuring 32 high amenity self-contained rooms, the development is in close proximity to Sydney University, a range of transport options and bustling King Street, Newtown. Generous communal living spaces on the ground floor open onto a private north-facing courtyard, capturing the sun year-round. Ample bicycle parking is provided as residents are encouraged to ride, walk or use public transport.
Urban context
A key challenge was designing a solution appropriate to the terraced conservation context while avoiding the roots and canopies of significant trees. The rhythm and height of neighbouring two-storey ‘row houses’ is mirrored in the elevations. Setbacks, height controls, articulated facades and screens help to ensure privacy, complement the streetscape and minimise overshadowing.
Look and feel
Material selection—including glass, natural concrete, terracotta battons, white textured render and charcoal matt Colourbond steel—create a modern and minimal aesthetic.
