But if you can set aside time each day to work on your blog, you’ll be amazed at how quickly it can grow.

2. Ability To Research and Learn New Things

As a blogger, it’s important to have the ability to research and learn new things.

After all, part of what makes blogging so great is that it gives you a platform to share your knowledge with the world.

But if you’re only sharing the same old information, your readers are going to get bored quickly.

That’s why it’s important to keep up with the latest trends and developments in your field and to be able to conduct research when you need to.

3. Strong Understanding of Technology

Technology is constantly changing, and that means there are always new things for bloggers to learn.

On top of that, there are countless blogging tools that this role requires the use of.

A strong understanding of technology is essential for keeping up with the latest trends and developments in the blogging world.

It also allows bloggers to take advantage of new tools and platforms that can help them reach a wider audience.

In addition, a deep knowledge of technology can help bloggers troubleshoot any problems they may encounter while writing or publishing their posts.

4. Thinking in Scalability and Systems

One of the keys to successful blogging is thinking in scalability and systems.

What does that mean, exactly?

Essentially, it means that you need to be able to think about how your blog will grow over time, and put systems in place that will allow it to scale smoothly.

For example, let’s say you’re a food blogger who is just starting.

You might only have a few recipes on your site, but if you’re thinking about scalability, you’ll already be thinking about how you’ll add new recipes over time.

That way, when your blog starts to take off, you won’t have to scramble to add new content – you’ll already have a system in place.

Examples of this include using pre-built blog post templates to produce more content, faster, or implementing Jasper recipes to efficiently write rapidly.

Types of Blogging Jobs Available to Bloggers and Writers

Being a blogger doesn’t mean you have to own a blog, although that is one way to become a blogger.

Instead, being a blogger can mean following a few different blogging career paths, such as blogging for someone else’s blog, managing a blog, and freelance writing.

1. Blogging For Yourself

You get to work from home, set your hours, and write about whatever you want.

But it’s not all fun and games. Running a successful blog takes a lot of hard work, dedication, and organization.

2. Blogging For Somebody Else’s Blog

Guest blogging, or guest posting, is a fantastic way to get your name and your work out there in front of a new audience.

This job occurs because bloggers sometimes outsource their writing and accept proposals to help contribute.

You may find a blog that will host you as a recurring writer if the site needs more writers to maintain its expanding audience.

However, for the most part, blogging for somebody else’s blog is a one-off.

3. Managing a Blog For Somebody

When you manage somebody’s blog, you interact with the blogger’s audience, help shape the blog’s content, and see how a successful blog runs behind the scenes.

Of course, managing a blog also requires a lot of hard work and organization.

You need to be able to keep track of posts, comments, and social media interactions, as well as stay on top of the latest trends in blogging.

4. Freelance Writing

Freelance writing is a great way to earn money from home.

You can set your hours and work as much or as little as you want.

And, best of all, you can choose to work on projects that interest you, whether that’s writing blog posts or services related to digital marketing.

If you’re a good writer and you’re willing to put in the effort, you can find plenty of work as a freelance writer.

Just create a portfolio of your writing samples and start submitting proposals to potential clients.

The Difference Between Blogging For Yourself and Blogging For Others

image showing a person making wordpress mistakes while sitting at a computer

If you are blogging for yourself, then you get complete control of the content that you publish.

You can write about whatever you want, and you don’t have to worry about pleasing anyone but yourself.

This can be liberating, but it also means that you are solely responsible for promoting your blog and building an audience.

If you blog for someone else, you will likely need to stick to a specific topic or niche.

You will also need to produce regular content and promote your work through social media and other channels.

There’s also a significant difference in pay for the two jobs.

When you blog on behalf of somebody else, you’re likely to be paid for your work whereas writing for and maintaining a personal blog isn’t likely to see the money until you decide to monetize it and put the work in to make the money.

An external perspective can identify a business’s process gaps, new opportunities, and other quality improvements.

No matter how strong an organization might be, there is always a path to continuous improvement.

This article covers all you need to know about what a consultant does, the different types, and how to become one.

What is a Consultant?

vector graphic showing an illustration of "what is a consultant"

A consultant is an individual who provides expertise in a specific field, such as education, business, or marketing.

Consultants provide professional advice to businesses, organizations, and individuals.

They usually work on a contract or temporary basis.

Why Does a Company Use a Consultant?

There are several reasons why a company will initiate a relationship with the consultant:

 • The business needs an external opinion on its current processes, systems, and policies.
 • The business needs someone who can identify blind spots in the business from a differing perspective.
 • The business needs expert coaching on integrating a new solution or solving a recurring problem.
 • The business needs to fulfill the current staff gap in an efficient, scalable manner.
 • The business needs talent from an expert, which could otherwise be difficult to find in a standard employee role.

Where Do Consultants Work?

Consultants can work in a couple of different settings.

First, they can work for an employer or corporate entity with robust training and development programs, molding future consultants to grow and build with the firm.

These individuals will oversee an assigned group of accounts or one individual enterprise.

Some consultants own and operate a business by themselves.

They represent their brand when they engage with clients and offer advice.

These professionals work remotely but might also have their own brick-and-mortar office where they host clients for meetings.

Which Industries Hire Consultants?

No matter how successful a business is, there is always an opportunity for improvement.

Below are some of the critical areas where a consultant can offer expertise.

1. Finance and Accounting

A finance and accounting consultant will assess a business’ financial health.

This analysis could include financial statements, current debts, and other metrics.

This type of consultant will identify areas to improve the current accounting procedures.

2. HR

An HR consultant will analyze current processes and offer solutions for talent development, talent management, recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, and other HR-related activities.

They will collaborate with the business to create a compelling company culture that attracts and retains top talent.

3. Employee Training

An employee training consultant will assess the current staff development programs a company has in place by analyzing the content, effectiveness, and structure of the employee training processes.

4. Technology

A technology consultant advises clients on maximizing information technology (IT) principles and practices to reach their long-term goals.

They will craft innovative strategies, ensure smooth implementation across the company, and help a company deploy an existing technology within its operations.

5. Branding

A branding consultant helps a company form the storytelling behind the business.

They engage with a company to help develop a vision and brand that its customer will believe in.

The consultant will also work with the business on designing its marketing kit, including the enterprise’s logos, colors, and other design consistency.

6. Marketing

A marketing consultant guides a company through developing and executing marketing strategies.

The consultant lays out a blueprint for boosting brand awareness, increasing leads, and generating sales.

They can also help form the company’s marketing plan through competitive analysis and in-depth research, including maximizing target audiences and product development.

7. Management

A management consultant engages primarily with the company leadership team to analyze current problems, gather information, and deploy new solutions.

They will assist the company in forming strategic plans, guiding capital projects, and integrating solutions that make it more competitive and profitable.

Management consultants can specialize in a specific industry, such as education, manufacturing, or healthcare.

8. IT

An IT consultant advises a company on potential security threats, optimizing current systems, analyzing code, and leveraging IT infrastructure to be more productive and profitable.

They will also evaluate the current IT support process and identify areas for improvement.

Training the IT team is another critical service an IT consultant could provide.

What Does it Take to Be a Good Consultant?

If a consultant role is something that interests you, there are four things you need to obtain if you want to be a top-tier consultant.

Experience

Experience is essential for a consultant.

More experience means they have encountered more business problems than someone with less experience.

Therefore, the consultant has a more substantial bank of information to pull from when advising a business.

This experience could be the total number of years as a consultant, the number of years working in a specific area of expertise, or both.

Expertise

An excellent consultant will have a proven track record of success with their clients and as a professional within the industry.

The consultants know when and how to deploy their expertise.

They understand the perfect moments and situations when their expertise is most beneficial.

People Skills

Creating an idea or strategy is half the battle.

The consultant needs to connect with stakeholders on a logical and emotional level.

A company might have several different team members engaging with the consultant.

Therefore, the consultant must mesh well with all personality types.

Problem-Solving Skills

Lastly, the consultant must have reliable critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

They must be able to think on their feet, utilize their resources, and keep a calm head while doing so.

Do Consultants Make a Lot of Money?

The amount of money a consultant makes will vary based on experience, industry, and employer.

Consultant earnings will range between $55,000-$100,000 on average when working for an established firm.

The consultant will usually create a “scope of work,” including the estimated work, projected hours, and cost.

vector graphic showing an illustration of "what is a consultant"

1. Identify Your Ideal Customer

What are the types of customers you want to serve?

Better yet, what solutions will you provide?

Identify your “bread and butter” regarding the problems you solve.

Once you have your optimal customer persona, you can begin your outreach.

2. Seek Them Out

Initiating relationships is the single more important thing you can do as a consultant.

Your clients will not seek you out toward the beginning of your career.

You will have to get creative with your outreach, whether cold calling, video marketing, or other digital tactics on LinkedIn.

Brainstorm ways to improve upon what they are doing, making your services unique.

Small Business Consulting: Definition, Types & Cost 2022 https://bloggingtips.com/small-business-consulting/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=small-business-consulting https://bloggingtips.com/small-business-consulting/#respond Thu, 09 Jun 2022 04:02:35 +0000 https://bloggingtips.com/?post_type=monetization&p=89630 Read more]]> This guide to small business consulting aims to help small business owners determine if they need an advisor and help individuals pursuing a career as a consultant get a successful start.

What Is Small Business Consulting?

Small business consulting often occurs at the beginning of a business’s operations or when there is substantial business development or expansion.

Small business owners will contact small business consultants to ask questions and streamline operations.

As things begin or grow, it’s crucial to have the right people and processes to ensure success and competency among employees.

What Does a Small Business Consultant Do?

A small business consultant advisors the small business owner on the best strategies for growth, economic development, and business development.

They help coordinate small business administration like HR operations, training processes, and bookkeeping to ensure the client and their business stay organized and on track.

They act as an advisor to the small business owner to give advice and recommendations on improving current operations and building the company up to be more successful.

Is There a Demand for Small Business Consultants?

According to the US Bureau of Labor and Statistics, there will be an increase in demand for small business consultants by 11% between 2019 and 2029.

As more people pivot to start their own businesses and become their own bosses, they need guidance as they step into this new territory.

Types of Small Business Consultants

There are several types of small business consultants who specialize in different areas of operations.

Some act as a more general advisor, while others work for specific purposes such as digital growth or an increase in new employees.

Below are the twelve most common types of small business consultants.

Strategy Advisors

Strategy advisors can give small business owners recommendations on several aspects of their business, from hiring to financials to technology upgrades.

But their main job is to devise a business plan for how to handle a period of growth or improvement.

Marketing Advisors

Marketing can be challenging to navigate because there are so many approaches to take.

A marketing advisor will be able to assess customer behavior and consumer patterns based on market research to determine your target audience and create a marketing strategy to reach and entice them.

Financial Advisors

Financial advisors act as accountants who assess your finances and make recommendations for cutbacks, hiring, equipment upgrades, and any other expenses you may be on the fence about.

Operations Advisors

Operations advisors will determine how to streamline processes and trim the fat.

They often help each client develop a growth strategy to make operations more efficient and cost-effective.

Management Advisors

Management advisors are a cross between operations advisors and strategy advisors.

They improve efficiency while also developing business plans for future growth and success.

Tax Advisors

Tax advisors help small business owners navigate taxes to take advantage of tax breaks they may not find on their own.

They also ensure taxes are paid properly to reduce the risk of audits or IRS issues.

Legal Advisors

Legal advisors will help draw up contracts between clients and vendors and ensure all corporate laws are being followed.

They act as an in-house lawyer to help small business owners understand and handle any legal issues.

IT Advisors

IT advisors will help companies with all technology-related operations.

So they’ll assist in web development, software engineering, networking, and infrastructure development.

Recruitment Advisors

Recruitment advisors help you determine the best talent for your company, how to find them, and how to make the hiring process as effective and efficient as possible.

They also help make your company more appealing to the top talent.

Sales Advisors

Sales advisors will assist and advise on anything related to sales operations.

So they will negotiate better vendor contracts and orders, help develop sales pitches and strategies and perform outreach for sales partnerships and promotions.

Digital Transformation Advisors

Digital transformation advisors can fall under the title of IT advisors, but they specifically help integrate new technologies and make sure all operations are up-to-date.

Doing this can include moving data to the cloud, coaching employees on using new programs, and modernizing all functions.

PR Advisors

PR advisors help foster a positive reputation for your company.

They help your company maintain a positive public image and elevate your brand to improve visibility on social media platforms.

What Types of Small Business Consultants Make the Most Money?

IT advisors and digital transformation consultants currently make the most money with small business consulting services.

As the world becomes more digitized and automated, companies that don’t move and improve with the times will be left behind.

Having a functional and user-friendly website and streamlined automation in hiring and bookkeeping processes are the keys to a successful small business.

Small Business Consultants vs. Full-Time Employees

Most small business consultants work as independent contractors, not full-time employees with a salary or benefits.

Many small business consultants will run their own small consulting firm so they can be advising multiple businesses at once.

And they may not work for the company for more than a few months or a year.

Once they develop a business plan and streamline operations or install new technologies, they can move on.

Some businesses will keep a consultant on staff full-time.

While this is a typically larger business, some small businesses want to have a legal advisor or tax advisor year after year, ensuring all rules and regulations are followed.

How To Determine if Your Company Needs a Small Business Consultant

There are many reasons to hire a business consultant.

If you lack expertise concerning technology, legal practices, or other essential aspects of running a business, it can help to hire a consultant.

If you feel your business needs to streamline operations and function more efficiently but don’t know where to start, hiring a contracted advisor can fix any issues quickly.

If you go through any period of significant growth or expansion, it’s wise to hire a consultant to ensure the process goes smoothly.

How Much Should I Pay a Small Business Consultant?

The average rate for a small business consultant is between $45 and $150 per hour.

If they set a fixed price, it could be anywhere from $100 to $1,500.

The type of contract and their expertise will determine the fees for each client.

Price Depends on the Industry

Industries that require more expertise will charge the most.

So tax advisors, legal advisors, IT advisors, and digital transformation advisors will be on the higher end of the spectrum.

While sales advisors, PR advisors, and marketing advisors will be on the lower end.

Operations managers and strategic managers will fall somewhere in the middle.

What Is a Fair Consulting Fee?

Consultants with more experience and a track record of success will charge more.

If you hire a brand new consultant, they should set their price lower.

Consultants will consider what training or education they have completed doing the job.

The best way to ensure you’re getting a fair price is to get quotes from three or more consultants in the same industry.

How Do Consultants Bill Clients?

Consultants will charge clients hourly or set a fixed amount for their services.

If a consultant comes in with the clear task of upgrading technology, they may assess the job and then set a fixed price for this job to be completed, no matter how long it takes them.

If the project is more open-ended and flexible, they will likely charge by the hour.

Is Hiring a Consultant Worth It?

Hiring a good consultant is almost always worth it because they may only be present for a short time, but they can make a lasting impact on the success of your business.

6 Tips to Consider When Building a Service-Based Blog Business https://bloggingtips.com/service-based-business/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=service-based-business https://bloggingtips.com/service-based-business/#respond Tue, 24 May 2022 03:13:07 +0000 https://bloggingtips.com/?post_type=build&p=87171 Read more]]> If you’re struggling to make money from your blog, you might want to consider leveraging a service-based income model.

Instead of waiting to build a popular blog and then monetizing it by displaying ads, you take things to the next level by identifying services you can offer to others as a freelancer or consultant, and by clearly showcasing this service(s) on your website.

This approach is much more effective, perhaps the fastest way to make real money blogging, and you don’t need boatload of traffic to get results if you use it.

Two great examples to the effectiveness of this approach:

 • Through a blog designed to attract clients for my services business, I started getting clients barely a month after starting it and I was making 4 figures monthly with an average of 600 visitors monthly to the blog.
 • This lady is making four figures monthly with less than 100 visitors to her blog monthly, by focusing on directing her traffic to her services business.

Do I need to say more?

If your aim is to get clients to your services business through your blog, it is very important to consider the 6 tips below.

6 Tips to Consider When Building a Service-Based Blog Business

To allow you to better implement the suggestions in this article, I have prepared a checklist that you can use to audit your blog to ensure you are on the right track.

1. Be Specific

You’ve probably heard the blogging advice “choose a niche” before?

If not, this is one of the most common problems bloggers face when starting a new site or blog.

When your blog is aimed at powering your services business, this advice can’t be more invaluable!

Whether you’re offering freelancing services, consulting services or some other type of service, you want to position yourself as an expert in your field, as this will significantly increase your chances of success.

The best way to do this, is by defining your niche and ensuring you only blog about a core group of inter-related topics.

There’s always the temptation to write about a lot of different topics so as to be able to cover a lot of ground, but that’s a fallacy many bloggers easily fall into.

You have a higher chance of success, both in terms of blog growth and revenue to your services business through your blog, by focusing on a small niche.

Also, it is important to make sure this niche is connected to the service you offer, and that it is a niche your potential clients are in.

2. Clearly Outline Your Services

The next step is to make sure details about services you offer are not in any way obscure on your blog.

A lot of service professionals make this mistake; they maintain a very good blog, but there’s no reference to the services they offer or the fact that they can be hired on their blog.

Don’t make this mistake.

Create a hire me/services page outlining and detailing the various services you can offer, the benefits clients get by hiring you and various ways they can reach out to you.

Make sure this page isn’t obscure on your blog; feature it prominently in your blog navigation bar, and pay attention to point 6 in this article for a tip to further promote this page.

3. Have a Defined Content Schedule

A blog is rarely effective in achieving its goals – whether that goal is to generate traffic, get subscribers, get clients, or increase sales – if it isn’t properly updated.

Don’t expect your blog to be very effective in sending clients to your services business when you have just 2 – 4 articles on it.

That won’t work.

For guaranteed long-term results, you need to define and stick to a content schedule.

For example, you can decide you want to be updating the blog once or twice a week, but make sure you have a schedule; don’t publish 5 articles this week and then ignore the blog for the next 3 months.

This is especially important if your blog is new; define a content schedule and stick to it.

4. Identify Key Articles You Need to Regularly Create

While you’d have to write a lot of articles on your blog to grow it, you need to realize that some types of articles are more effective than others in attracting clients.

It is very important to identify these key articles, and focus on creating more of them.

Sometimes, you will publish an article and then realize that the article is very effective in getting traffic to your blog and clients to contact you.

It is important to do more of these types of articles.

I have found 3 different types of articles to be effective in getting traffic and clients, and I’ll recommend doing more of these types of articles:

 • The resource article: This features a list of resources people can use right away after reading your article. They don’t need to go through any other step, do any special Google search; they can’t start using the resources in the article right away. This article featuring 110 websites that pay writers is a good example. This list of blogs accepting guest posts is another example of a resource article that has resulted in five figures in freelance income for me.
 • The ultimate guide: This is aimed at being a definitive guide to something. The article basically focuses on a subject people want to learn about in your niche, and it covers it with as much details as necessary; including screenshots, visuals, relevant examples and links to other resources that complement the article. This post is an example of an ultimate guide on guest blogging.
 • Case studies: This is aimed at demonstrating your expertise with a particular thing, and showing potential clients what your process involves for successfully achieving a particular task. Case studies might not end up being as popular as the other two examples above, but they have massive potential for sending clients your way. This post by Neil Patel is a very good example of a case study. This is another case study showing how I got 1,200 subscribers in 2 months, and it is quickly becoming the second most popular article on my blog in no time.

So, amongst other types of articles, try to give the above articles some attention as well; doing them on a regular basis will not only increase your traffic but will actually result in clients for your services business.

5. Ensure Your Articles Effectively Reference Your Services

After creating a services page outlining the services you can offer to potential clients, the next step is to make sure you give this page maximum exposure.

One of the best ways to consistently and effectively promote your services is by referencing it in majority of the articles on your blog.

There are two ways to do this:

 • Subtly; by occasionally hinting at your services, or subtly mentioning your services, and linking to your services page inside the body of your article.
 • Explicitly; by clearly including a call to action below your article telling people about the services you offer and asking them to reach out to you.

Here’s a screenshot of what explicitly referencing your services in an article looks like:

Both examples are good, and I recommend a healthy combination of both.

If you run a personal development blog and offer counseling services, for example, you can easily update an article giving people life improvement tips with a call to action below the article to use your counseling services; this is explicitly referencing your services.

If you’re a freelance writer talking about the need for quality content, and you subtly hint at hiring an expert writer to solve clients’ content needs, and you link to your services page while doing that, you’re using the subtle approach.

6. Have a Clear Outreach System

The final step, which is just as important as every other step listed approach is outreach.

Even if you have a blog that is a massive resource, you won’t achieve much through it unless people are aware of it.

There are two key ways to go about letting people know about your blogs and they are:

 • Paying to advertise your blog
 • Leveraging successful platforms to freely promote your blog

The first option is definitely not available for most people, and it is not really recommended unless you have a system designed to maximize every dollar spent.

I’ve found option 2, however, to be very effective.

Look for other successful blogs and publications that have the audience you want, and look for a way to get them to refer their audience to you.

A great way to do this is by offering to write high quality articles for them, in exchange for a link back to your blog in your bio.

This process is called guest blogging, and there are several great articles on Blogging Tips on guest blogging that you can get started with.

Conclusion

The above are 6 really important tips you should consider when building a service-based blog business.

What other tips have worked really well for you that you want to add?

What Is A Resume Builder?

Resume builders take the stress out of the customization and presentation.

A resume builder is an application, software, or website that helps you create a resume.

They typically offer guidance on edits or creating a professional design.

To use an online resume builder, you’ll have to fill out the prompts for your past work experience.

Then, the builder will give different final products for you to choose from.

Some of the options may cost money, but it could be worth it for the proper look.

Can You Trust Resume Builders?

Yes! Many resume builders save time and effort in applying to positions.

They allow for quick resumes with personalization to fit your specific needs.

For many resume builders, all your information expires after use.

If you make an account, the data stays.

Is It Worth Using A Resume Builder?

For those new to creating resumes or those who just want to give their current resume a makeover, resume builders are a valuable tool.

They can help you create a professional final product with minimal effort.

With the high workload of being a full-time student and the varying schedule that courses keep, it is hard to provide a consistent schedule to employers or those running a federal work-study.

For that reason, there is a great demand for online jobs for college students – primarily with opportunities that allow them to create their own schedules and earn a considerable income.

To help that search process, we curated a list of over 20 opportunities for those looking for online jobs to consider.

What kinds did we come up with in our research?

Continue reading below to find out!

Can College Students Earn Money Online?

The short answer to this question is yes; college students can earn money online through a variety of different avenues.

This route to earning money has become increasingly popular in the past few years and, as a result, has made life much easier for college students.

How Can College Students Make Money Online?

There are various ways in which college students can earn income online.

Whereas jobs conducted over the internet used to be considered “too good to be true,” and students were encouraged to obtain campus jobs or take out more financial aid, that isn’t the case any longer.

Now you can find many different forms of employment that are conducted entirely online for extra money during school.

How Much Can a College Student Earn Online?

The amount of money that a college student can earn online will depend on which path they choose for their income and how much time they have available to devote to the work.

Due to a student’s complicated schedule and the time required for studying, it isn’t always feasible to dedicate a considerable amount of time to work.

Therefore, the amount of money they earn will be less.

Benefits of Online Jobs for College Students

Being a college student comes with a lot of responsibility.

Not only that, but the journey to obtain a college degree requires many hours of education, studying, and interning.

Online jobs for college students have many benefits that cater to these needs.

Flexibility

When you have a significant course load in college, many study hours, and a schedule that frequently changes to accommodate new classes and seminars, it can be challenging to provide a consistent schedule to an employer.

Because of that, college attendees having the flexibility that comes with online employment and remote work can allow students to earn money while still being able to devote appropriate time to their studies.

Exposure to New Industries

The nice thing about many online positions is that they serve many different industries.

While a person may not gain exposure to such fields with an in-person job, online opportunities provide the ability to peek into other areas.

For those looking for a future career field, these experiences may lead college students to consider different options.

Skill Development

Many college students obtain their first experiences in employment while getting their education.

While some work earlier, before graduating high school, there are just as many that don’t.

Therefore, learning employment skills happens for the first time in college.

As we all know, one learns many critical skills when employed.

However, these don’t have to be obtained in person.

Those just entering the workforce can also realize them in an online employment situation.

Earning Potential

It’s common to have the ability to earn more income through an online position than it is if you work in person.

Often, due to overhead, rent, utilities, etc., a brick and mortar business will be limited in what they can offer as an hourly wage.

However, online jobs don’t typically have those debts.

Therefore, online jobs for college students can routinely offer higher pay to their employees.

Work at Home

Having the ability to work from home (or dorm) has many advantages for a college student.

It’s easy to just hop over to work after finishing a study session and not worry about driving, clocking in at a specific time, and beating traffic.

Online Jobs For College Students: No Experience

It is best for those entering the workforce for the first time to look for a job that welcomes those with no experience.

While fewer opportunities are available for individuals in this situation, that doesn’t mean there aren’t any.

1. Social Media Manager

It’s safe to say that many college students know their way around social media.

Being a Social Media Manager means that you help companies market themselves on these portals in ways that make them more approachable to prospective customers.

While this job can become quite lucrative, making well over minimum wage, you must know specific social media and search engine optimization details.

Scheduling posts for the future, creating content, and utilizing the correct keywords are all a part of this position.

2. Online Tutor

There are many companies these days that offer tutoring services online for all ages.

Whether it is helping elementary students learn to read, teaching adults how to use Microsoft Word, or tutoring first- and second-year students in your same program, there are endless opportunities for income earning.

When college students start in this role, their rates are lower while gaining clients.

Once you have several positive reviews, you can increase your cost accordingly.

Depending on the online tutoring subject, you can easily earn $25 or more per hour.

3. Survey Taker

While being a survey taker seems simple enough, it’s actually more work than you might think.

Some websites have a platform that shows you surveys that fit your demographic.

However, that is not a guarantee that you will be able to complete the job.

Many, like Survey Junkie and Online Survey, include verification questions to ensure that you are the audience they are looking for in a particular survey.

At times, you may be disqualified based on your responses.

The amount you earn from this gig will vary greatly depending on which platform the survey is on.

Be careful to weigh the amount of time needed to complete the study with the amount you are set to receive.

You will often see that you are earning pennies for all the work you put in, which isn’t worth your time.

4. Resume Writer

Teaching yourself the appropriate techniques for writing a killer resume can go a long way in helping you earn an income online as a college student.

Resumes are always needed as people look for new employment opportunities.

Additionally, many free or cheap resources online can teach you to write the perfect one for your clients.

Job searching is a stressful process that many people would rather pay others to take this task off their plates.

Therefore, you can easily earn a decent wage by writing them regularly.

However, make sure you stay up on the trends because they change often, and use excellent customer service in your interactions.

5. Niche Blogger

While blogging can take some time and money to get up and going, it can also be lucrative in the long run.

Picking a subject that is unique and interesting to readers can allow you to draw them in.

You can begin earning ad revenue or obtaining sponsorship deals with consistent page views.

Before reaching that level, it can be difficult to earn any money through blogging.

You have to be persistent to get to a place where you can make enough money and where it is worth it to continue going.

Patience is the key if you choose this path.

There are resources available to help you quickly become a successful blogger.

We’ve put together a comprehensive tutorial of how to start a blog, from scratch.

Read that guide and have a blog up and running in no time.

6. YouTube Influencer

While it may seem that many people can make a comfortable living posting videos to YouTube or other social media platforms, it is a very long and tedious process to get to that point.

You have to have unique ideas that have the potential to go viral, but you also need to know how to properly edit a video to make viewing it a pleasant experience.

Like niche blogging, being a YouTube influencer takes a long time before you see success.

It isn’t until you start to have a steady stream of viewers that you can take advantage of YouTube monetization and see revenue from ads and sponsorship offers.

7. Freelance Writer

Writing those term papers can give you some well-refined skills to parlay into extra cash.

If you can efficiently write quality material, it is worth looking into freelance writing.

You can create your own gigs on platforms like Fiverr or join forces with a content creation site and ghostwrite for different websites and companies.

If you decide to go this path, make sure you have an application that helps with grammar and spelling errors.

Clean and error-free writing will help you to have better reviews and, in turn, higher earnings.

8. Audio Transcription

If you are a fast typer, it may be worth looking into audio transcription.

Listening to others’ words and putting them into written form requires the ability to process what you hear quickly and type it out simultaneously with minimal errors.

If this sounds like a good fit for you, there are many online practice tests to see how you would fare with it as employment.

You’ll often see opportunities listed on a job board or freelance websites.

Depending on what company you decide to partner with or the platform you use, you could earn a few cents per word to begin.

This rate is likely to go up as you continue to perform consistently.

9. Video Captioning

Now, more than ever before, the need for video captioning is in demand.

With social media videos like those on TikTok and Instagram, it is vital to include video-closed captioning for those who are deaf or hard of hearing to participate in the experience.

While some platforms offer this service, the result isn’t always accurate.

Additionally, if individuals have created a short movie or documentary, they often want to hire someone to perform this task.

If audio transcription is too fast-paced for you, video captioning may be ideal for you.

Like transcription, you will earn more with consistent, high-quality output.

10. Photo Editor

In the same breath as video captioning, photo editing is a highly sought-after service for new up-and-coming influencers and social media participants.

Taking photos and tweaking them in a way that makes them look more professional and flawless can bring in the top dollar if done the right way.

If you have a keen eye for these things and are in graphic design or photography, offering photo editing services on the side can pay off quite well.

Offer to do pro bono work for family and friends in order to build a portfolio and use that to get jobs afterward.

11. Retail Arbitrage

In the past few years, many have discovered the joy of retail arbitrage.

Searching the racks of thrift stores to find popular clothing brands and accessories and selling them at a higher price online can bring in some fast cash.

However, the time it takes to find the items can be lengthy, so that needs to be considered.

If you frequently find yourself in thrift stores anyway, this could pay off for you.

Taking extra time to search out items that others would pay good money for can make you a significant payday.

Be sure to pull things up on your phone while browsing to see what profit you can make before purchasing the items you find.

Online Jobs for College Students: Highest Paying

While we have outlined the best online jobs for college students who have no experience, we now bring you a list of the highest paying.

If you possess a skill set in one of the areas below, you may have the ability to earn top dollar while still in college.

vector graphic showing people doing various entry level digital marketing jobs

1. Software Developer

Typically, those pursuing a future in software development aren’t going into the field blindly.

Often, those individuals have been self-taught until college and have a pretty strong foundation of skills going into their advanced education.

If this is you, don’t hesitate to profit off of this knowledge!

Many companies and individuals look to hire those with a skill set such as this for various projects.

As a college student, your rates will be lower than hiring a corporation but still high paying for a person in school!

2. Online Tutor

We referenced this option above, and it is an excellent fit for those who have no work experience but also want a high-paying opportunity.

There are tutors needed for all subjects you can think of and many hobbies and specialties.

Additionally, online tutors are requested worldwide, not just in your country.

This broad range opens up the ability to obtain more money due to the immense need through less work than most part time jobs.

3. ESL Teacher

The primary target demographic for an ESL teacher is overseas parents.

These parents want their children to learn English as a second language and pay good money to do so.

Many online companies hire college students for this purpose.

Often, you will send in an audition tape of you teaching a lesson, and they will respond with a pay rate offer per class.

To excel at this job, you must be in tune with your students and hone in on the skills they need to learn.

You may need to research ways to most appropriately and effectively teach the required skills.

There are many free resources available to help you with this challenge.

4. Graphic Designer

For those entering a program in Graphic Design, you can quickly transfer those talents and learning objectives into employment.

Many companies and individuals don’t possess the ability to create logos and graphics independently.

Therefore, they look to outsource this task to others who show great talent in the subject.

College students are great for this need, as they are looking for opportunities to shine and build a portfolio.

You can earn a substantial income doing small projects on the side while still having adequate time to devote to your studies.

5. Website Designer

It is getting easier to design a website on your own, but it is still an arduous task to take on.

This is especially so when a person or company is looking for something specific and detailed.

For those who have an interest in coding and possess experience in web design, this field can be a great option.

The pay makes it well worth your time, as well.

6. Search Engine Evaluator

As a role that is a bit of a hidden secret, a search engine evaluator gives human insight into online search engines and the information they give out in their results.

Some tests need to be completed before taking on this role, and the work isn’t set or guaranteed hours each week.

However, even with those details, the pay comes out to a higher amount than minimum wage in most states and can be done at home.

7. Podcaster

While rising up the ranks in podcasting is in the same realm as being a YouTube influencer or a niche blogger, the payoff is pretty good once you obtain a high enough status.

Podcasting goes hand in hand with ad deals, sponsorships, and additional platform revenue.

Therefore, if you can get to a high-ranking podcasting position with persistence and patience, you will have a solid income as a result.

Starting a podcast is easy once you’ve equipped yourself with the right tools. We’ve done the research and found out everything you need to get started.

8. Voiceover Artist

As a testament to the substantial income brought in through work as a voiceover artist, many outside of college use it as a full-time income.

In knowing that, you can tell that the pay you can potentially earn will be a fair amount.

While this role doesn’t require any form of special education, it is worthwhile to learn as much as you can about the work.

Having a better skill level will lead to booking more voiceover artist jobs at higher rates.

9. Video Editor

Like photo editing, having the skills to edit videos is in high demand.

Additionally, due to the amount of time editing often takes, the amount you can charge is higher than other gigs.

With the rise in videos on social media platforms and the number of people wanting to become influencers on YouTube and TikTok, the need for editing is significant.

Finding the Best Online Job for You

When looking for a job that works with your college education, don’t automatically pursue the first option that you come across.

Instead, consider the following questions.

vector graphic showing people doing various entry level digital marketing jobs

What are you good at?

There is no need to reinvent the wheel when it comes to finding a solid employment opportunity.

If there is an area that you are already skilled at and it can be profitable, explore that option first!

What are your budget and financial goals?

In order to pick the best route, you need to know what your overall goal is for the amount you earn and where you want to be now and in the future financially.

How much money do you need to start?

Is your preferred role one that requires some kind of initial investment?

If you are looking to start podcasting, how much will you need to obtain the necessary equipment?

How much does it cost to start an online business?

It is worthwhile to consider whether you will work as an independent contractor or if you will work under an LLC or other business structure.

Depending on what route you take, there will be additional costs associated with getting everything in place.

What hours are you willing to work?

Lastly, you need to consider how frequently you want to work and how many hours you have available to invest in employment.

Some options, such as video editing or being a virtual assistant, take longer than others on the list.

With all of that in mind, you need to carefully consider your availability before committing to a particular position.

Wrapping Up

Securing employment as a college student can be challenging.

With the complex schedules that students hold and a significant amount of time spent studying, there aren’t many hours of the day that remain to devote to working.

Therefore, finding online jobs for college students is becoming increasingly common and recommended by career service departments.

These roles allow you to complete your education while earning an income simultaneously.

The time has never been better to get started.

The nature of work has changed dramatically in recent years as businesses shift more and more to the digital sphere.

As a result, entry level digital marketing jobs are in demand like never before.

We’ve talked about blogger jobs before, but now we’re diving into the world of digital marketing.

Here’s a look at what you can do to put yourself in a position to capitalize on this fast-growing industry.

What is Digital Marketing Work?

Marketing is the act of promoting or advertising a brand/product with a specific goal in mind.

The goal is to either raise awareness about an offering/service or convince a customer to make a purchase.

Often when we think of marketing, we still think of it in the context of somewhat outdated traditional channels.

This might include mediums such as television commercials, newspaper ads, and billboards.

Digital Marketing refers to the same type of goals and initiatives as traditional methods; however, it is conducted entirely through electronic devices such as phones or computers.

It can take on many forms, such as paid display ads, paid search ads, social media, and search engine optimization (SEO).

In an increasingly digitized world, a digital marketing specialist fills a glaring need.

It is a field that is expected to more than double over the next decade.

Firms are hiring for digital marketing jobs at an unprecedented rate to account for this.

What Does Entry Level Really Mean?

An entry-level listing generally means a company hires people with little to no experience or training for an open position.

However, while you may find numerous positions listed under “entry-level,” there is more of a loose definition of what that actually means.

Some companies may have more strict requirements for prospective entry-level employees, such as a college-level education or a basic understanding of the industry.

Others may want some experience, even if it’s an unpaid internship or volunteer work.

When applying for entry-level positions, it is essential to remember that this is often a flexible term.

Be sure to read the fine print in the job description to see if there are any prerequisites.

What Is The Average Entry Level Digital Marketing Salary?

The average salary for those just starting out in the digital marketing specialist field generally ranges from around $45,000-55,000.

However, as there is a wide fluctuation in job titles, this number could be more or less depending on the company, location, and the specific role you take on.
